Former Peterborough Petes and Flint Firebirds forward Brennan Othmann suited up in his first career NHL game on the eve on his 21st birthday Thursday night at Madison Square Garden as the New York Rangers skated to a 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. The Pickering, Ont. native skated in 12 minutes of action, registering five shots on goal.
Othmann had tremendous success throughout his OHL career, hoisting the J. Ross Robertson Cup as a 2023 OHL champion with Peterborough last season. He was a franchise cornerstone in Flint, registering 50 goals and 97 points in his sophomore campaign to lead the Firebirds to the 2022 Western Conference Championship Series. Othmann also excelled on the international stage, recording two goals and four assists in seven games to bring home a gold medal for Team Canada at the 2023 World Juniors.
Originally Flint’s first round (2nd overall) pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection, Othmann played in 177 regular season games throughout his OHL career, recording 96 goals, 101 assists and 197 points along with a plus/minus rating of plus-26 . He was an excellent playoff performer, registering 17 goals, 32 assists and 49 points in 42 games.
Selected in the first round (16th overall) by the Rangers in the 2021 NHL Draft, Othmann has appeared in 28 games with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack this season, posting 23 points (9-14-28).
