The Maple Leafs put on a show for the hometown crowd in the revamped skills competition.
Both William Nylander and Auston Matthews started slow with the fastest skater and the hardest shot not being the events best suited for Nylander and Matthews. The duo came to life later with stick handling and shot accuracy being their path the final rounds where both Nylander and Matthews put on a show.

William Nylander was on FIRE in the NHL One On One! 🤩 #NHLAllStar https://t.co/pGXkYwnTXY pic.twitter.com/2pb3jb8E7t

Matthews would finish a close second to Connor McDavid in the accuracy shooting competition, and William Nylander won the shootout challenge, one of the more entertaining events. Matthews would finish second in the same event.
Connor McDavid would go on to win the event that he largely designed and walked away with $1M. While I’m sure the Leafs players were fighting hard for that prize, both Matthews and Nylander have recently cashed in nicely and I’m sure they get by just fine. Cale Makar finished second on the strength of a strong obstacle course performance which was another of the 4 events won by McDavid on the night.
All-Star weekend concludes tomorrow with the Game(s) including the Leafs stars in action for Team Matthews. We’ll see if the Leafs stars respond better to Justin Bieber than Sheldon Keefe.
