Women’s Hockey Navigates Past Beacons on Mental Health Awareness Night, 6-1

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – On a night when the Elmira College women’s ice hockey program teamed up with Sophie’s Squad to help raise awareness surrounding mental health and the stigma associated with seeking help, the Soaring Eagles defeated the UMass Boston Beacons, 6-1, on home ice at the Murray Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Anna Lugge ’27 netted her eighth goal of the season to give the Soaring Eagles a 1-0 lead at the 12:38 mark of the first period. Lugge would find the back of the net after gathering a loose puck in the offensive zone and beating Beacons goalkeeper Leah Bosch.
  • The lead would double to 2-0 at the 15:23 mark of the first period as Sabrina Shvartsman ’25 took a feed from Katie Manning ’25 to tally her sixth goal of the season for the Purple & Gold.
  • A pair of quick-strike goals to open the second period pushed the Elmira lead to 4-0 as the Soaring Eagles would convert on a pair of power-play opportunities. MK Boyle ’26 added her sixth goal of the season at the 1:38 mark to make it 3-0 as Emily Lenzen ’24 was credited with the assist.
  • Erika Goleniak ’25 would provide her team-leading 11th goal of the season at the 3:15 mark of the second period to put the Purple & Gold ahead by four goals as Boyle would be credited with the assist.
  • The Beacons netted their lone goal of the contest at the 4:59 mark of the second period as Hannah MacDougall went high blocker-side to find the back of the net. Allie Reifler was credited with the assist on MacDougall’s tally.
  • Elmira responded with two goals to close the frame as Piper Andrews ’26 gave the Purple & Gold a 5-1 advantage at the 8:53 mark with her sixth goal of the season. The assist on Andrews’ tally was credited to Shvartsman.
  • The scoring would be rounded out at the 11:16 mark of the second period as Alayna Toole ’26 beat the keeper to make it 6-1 for the Soaring Eagles. Andrews and Shvartsman both added the helpers on Toole’s sixth goal of the season.

 
 
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles return to the ice on Saturday as they will honor the Class of 2024 following an NEHC matchup against Johnson & Wales University beginning at 3:00 P.M.
