No. 11 Women’s Ice Hockey Rallies Late; Soaring Eagles Drop 4-2 Decision against No. 7 Hamilton

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – A goal early in the third period from Madi Morton ’24 would not be enough for the No. 11 Elmira College women’s ice hockey program as the Soaring Eagles dropped a 4-2 decision in a non-conference matchup against No. 7 Hamilton College on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Hamilton opened the scoring in the contest as Abby Weiss beat Elmira goalkeeper Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 2:38 into the first period to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
• The 1-0 score would hold until Hamilton would get a late power play opportunity in the opening frame. Bobbi Rocca doubled the lead for Hamilton to 2-0 with less than a minute remaining after deflecting a shot in front of Kuehberger.
• Elmira would tally the lone goal of the second period as MK Boyle ’26 delivered a wrist shot from in close that would sneak under the crossbar to trim the deficit to 2-1 at the 13:50 mark. The goal was Boyle’s fourth of the season, while Madi Morton ’24 added her team-leading 10th assist of the season.
• The Soaring Eagles wouldn’t wait long to find the equalizer in the third period as Morton took a slap shot from the top of the zone just 22 seconds into the frame to knot the score 2-2. The tally was the fourth of the season for Morton.
• The contest would remain tied 2-2 until a scramble in front of the Elmira net would see Hamilton poke the puck into the net at the 14:50 mark. Zoe Katz was credited with the goal that would give Hamilton a 3-2 advantage.
• Elmira received a late power play opportunity in the third period and would pull the goalie for a 6-on-4 advantage with just over a minute remaining. Hamilton would win a faceoff in its own zone and send the puck down the ice into the empty net to secure the 4-2 victory.
• Despite suffering the loss between the pipes, Kuehberger recorded 25 saves for the Soaring Eagles, while Hamilton goalkeeper Teagan Brown registered 33 saves to earn the win.
