Chalmers ‘excited’ by fixtures scheduling

Glasgow Clan Chief Operating Officer Gareth Chalmers says he’d never been more excited about attending a fixtures meeting.

The Scottish club are still sorting out their future in their home arena, Braehead Arena, but have began planning for the future while legalities and details are sorted out that will hopefully see the Clan return home.

But after joining the other Elite League teams to thrash out a schedule for 2021/22, Chalmers was pleased to be involved and reckons the Purple Army will be excited by their first game.

He told the club’s website: “After what we’ve all been through over the past year, especially the Clan, it’s the most excited I’ve ever been to attend the fixtures meeting.

“It was great and very positive to meet up with the nine other clubs and spend ten hours working through a whole schedule for the new season.

“Once we’re in a position to go public with the schedule, I know the fans will be very excited by our home opener, it will certainly create a buzz for our homecoming.”

Chalmers also addressed the whispers about the club planning ahead when negotiations, described as “constructive and positive” with Global Mutual, the asset management company in whose hands the arena is with currently.

“I can appreciate people will be questioning why we are attending a fixtures meeting, when the future of Braehead Arena remains unresolved,” he added.

“However, we need to plan and schedule as much as we can for a new season, so if and when we get a resolution, we are in a position to hit the ground running.”
