The Summer Olympics are here, and quite frankly, Jay Rosehill is all jacked up about them.
Don’t worry, folks —the season opener is now just 71 short days away.
At any rate, that’s where we started the latest edition of Leafs Morning Take. After some Olympic talk, we transitioned into the news about Joe Bowen and Jim Ralph coming back for another season to call Maple Leafs games on the radio. I had a chance to work with those two when I spent two seasons as Leafs Radio Host on Sportsnet 590 The Fan. They’re absolute beauties, and it’s great to hear that they’ll be in the mix once again.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we got into the Alex Nylander news. In case you missed it, the AHL’s Toronto Marlies inked William’s little brother to a 1-year deal. Alex is 26 and has 121 career NHL games under his belt. Furthermore, he was taken 8th overall in the 2016 draft by the Buffalo Sabres. The kicker here is that Nylander had a strong finish this past season with Columbus when he tallied 11 goals in 23 outings after being traded there by Pittsburgh. All in all, it’s a low risk, high reward type move. It would be super cool to see him play with his big bro on the Leafs one day. Who knows what could happen, right?
After that, we welcomed in former Leaf and current Nashville Predators blue liner Luke Schenn. For the most part, we dissected what his team did around July 1. And it was a lot. In one fell swoop, the Predators signed Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjei. Additionally, we did ask him a little about Craig Berube, who he played for in Philadelphia.
Leafs Morning Take will return on Thursday, August 1st. We’ll play our recent interview with new Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz.
