BARRIE, ON — New Jersey Devils forward Nathan Bastian was announced as one of the latest NHL players to participate in the Boots and Hearts Barn Burner Charity Hockey Game on Aug. 7 at Sadlon Arena in Barrie, Ontario.
According to their website, “The Boots and Hearts Barn Burner Charity Hockey Game is committed to raising essential funds for various local charities, including the RVH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), John Tavares Foundation’s programs for kids, PIE Education, Rotary Club, and several other organizations that significantly impact the lives of residents in our community.”
Former Devils Taylor Hall and Chris Tierney will join Bastian. Other NHLers who will be participating include John Tavares (Toronto Maple Leafs), Quinton Byfield (LA Kings), Andrew Mangiapane (Washington Capitals), Bo Horvat (New York Islanders), and Ryan McLeod (Buffalo Sabres).
Several players from the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), including Jill Saulnier and Marie-Philip Poulin, will also participate.
Country music artist Shantaia will perform during intermission; tickets can be purchased here.
Bastian’s final game of the 2023-24 season was on Feb. 22, 2024. In 54 games, he earned 12 points (five goals, seven assists) and was credited with 143 hits, the second-most among forwards behind Curtis Lazar.
The 2024-25 season is the final year of his two-year contract, which he signed on Jul. 1, 2023, and is worth $2,700,000 with an annual average value of $1,350,000.
