ST. JOSEPH, Minn. â After four seasons with the College of Saint Benedict hockey team, head coach Nick Thibault has stepped down, CSB Athletic Director Kelly Anderson Diercks announced Tuesday afternoon.
In his four seasons with the program, Thibault finished 28-45-6 overall, including a pair of 10-win seasons.
“I want to thank coach Thibault for all that he has done for CSB hockey,” stated Anderson Diercks. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Thibault took over the program in the 2018-19 season, and immediately helped the team win the most games in a season since 2008-09. In 2019-20, Thibault guided the team to 11 wins â the most since 2000-01, and the sixth 10-win season in program history. That year, CSB beat St. Thomas for just the fourth time in program history.
This past season, CSB finished 10-12-1 overall and 6-7-1 and sixth in the MIAC â the team’s best conference finish since 2008-09 and just the seventh time in program history the Bennies have reached double-digit wins. The team wrapped up the year with its first All-MIAC First Team honoree since 2016-17, its first All-Rookie Team member since 2008-09 and four total all-conference honorees â the most for the program since 2015-16.
The Bennies have momentum and are poised for success heading into the 2022-23 season. Along with a 10-win season, Saint Benedict also played in the MIAC Tournament for just the second time in program history this season and the first since 2000-01, and the team returns plenty of talent from its current roster.
Five of the team’s top six scorers are poised to return next season, including Jenna Timm, who earned All-MIAC First Team honors and a spot on the All-Rookie Team, it was announced Monday. Ava Stinnett and Sami Boerboom both scored at least 10 points as first years, and Corrine Brown and Brynn Sexauer each had at least four goals in their sophomore seasons.
A national search for a new head coach will begin in the coming weeks.
