It’s time for the first Battle of Ontario for 2024-25.
Most notably, will there be any fallout from the conclusion of last year’s season series?
Imagine a square off between Morgan Rielly and Ridly Greig at centre ice? Yeah, dream on.
Jay Rosehill doesn’t expect much carry over from February 10th. It’s been a while. Both head coaches are different, too.
At any rate, we kicked off the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing some of the lineup notes from practice. There’s lots of moving parts, but at the end of the day, William Nylander and Max Domi, who missed Monday’s skate will both play. Additionally, Connor Dewar will make his season debut. Also, Alex Steeves was recalled on an emergency basis, but it doesn’t sound like he will play against Ottawa. Of note, Steeve has potted nine goals in 10 games so far this season for the AHL’s Marlies.
And so, we’re all set for Round 1 between the Leafs and Sens. For what it’s worth, Ottawa took three of four from the Maple Leafs in 2023-24. No Auston Matthews once again. In three outings without their captain, the Leafs are 3-0-0. In that time, they’re 7-for-13 on the power play. Go figure. Anthony Stolarz will get the call.
After that, we offered up a status update on Calle Jarnkrok. On Monday morning, Brad Treliving revealed that the veteran forward (sports hernia) had a setback over the weekend. Additionally, he noted that Jarnkrok will see a specialist in New York this week before determining the next steps in the recovery process.
On Wednesday’s edition of Leafs Morning Take, we’ll recap Leafs/Sens. Plus, we’ll look ahead to second half of the back-to-back in Washington as Toronto tangles with the red-hot Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals for the first time this season.
