Andrew Wycisk commits to IceDogs – Ontario Hockey League

by

Niagara, ON – Niagara IceDogs General Manager Joey Burke is proud to announce that 2021 OHL Priority Selection 45th overall pick Andrew Wycisk has signed a Standard Player Agreement, committing to the team. The 5’9″ defenceman played the 2019-20 season with the Greater Toronto Hockey League’s (GTHL) Vaughan Kings AAA program. In 30 games of his U15 season, he collected 15 points (3 goals, 12 assists).

Described as a puck-moving defenceman, the 15-year-old from Etobicoke, ON is known for his elite skating abilities that make him a dangerous opponent when he joins the rush. Despite being a fast skater, Wycisk is a defensive-minded blueliner who utilizes his hockey IQ to determine his positioning. He has been described as one of the fastest backwards skating defencemen of the 2005-born draft class and is poised to become a steady defenceman in the OHL.

GM Burke announced the signing earlier today, saying “We couldn’t be more excited to make Andrew’s commitment official today. When the time came to target defence, we never thought we would be able to get a talent like Andrew and we couldn’t be more excited we did.

“Andrew fits our program and brings an extremely well-rounded game, with possibly the best feet in this year’s draft class.

“With this signing we really feel we have the core in place to do big things with. I cannot wait to get going!”

“I am honoured and proud to officially join the IceDogs! They have already made my family and I feel so welcomed,” added Wycisk. “I’m very excited to start playing in front of the fans in Niagara and to help the team win!”
