The New York Islanders stayed alive in the playoffs after battling back from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 3-2 overtime victory in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Semifinals on Wednesday. It was a big win following an embarrassing 8-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 5 on Monday. The Islanders and Lightning will play in Game 7 on Friday with the winner advancing to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Lightning had scored 12 straight goals against the Islanders when Anthony Cirelli gave Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead at the 12:36 mark of the second period. The goal came after the Islanders failed to score on a 5-on-3 power play for 1:02 and it looked like it could be curtains for the Islanders. However, Jordan Eberle provided a spark for the Islanders when he scored less two minutes later to end the team’s goal drought at 116:25.

Anthony Beauvillier completed the team’s comeback just 1:08 into overtime in what could have possibly been the final playoff game at Nassau Coliseum. The Islanders will be hoping for another round, but if that is it then they provided one last memorable postseason moment in the building.

TAMPA BAY 2 NEW YORK ISLANDERS 3 (OT) – Series tied 3-3

Tampa Bay was dealt a big blow just 2:22 into the contest when Nikita Kucherov left the game due to an undisclosed injury. He wasn’t able to return and there was no update on his status following the contest. It is unclear at this time if he will available to play on Friday. Kucherov leads the Stanley Cup Playoffs in scoring with 27 points (five goals, 22 assists) in 17 games.

The Lightning managed to get a 2-0 lead after Kucherov’s exit thanks to goals by Brayden Point and Anthony Cirelli. They also picked up an assist each in the match for two-point performances.

Point’s league-leading 14th goal of the postseason extended his goal streak to nine straight games. He is one goal away from matching the NHL record for longest goal-scoring spree in a single playoff year, which was established by Reggie Leach in 1976.

Jordan Eberle got the Islanders on the board at the 14:22 mark of the second stanza with his fourth goal of the postseason. It was his first goal in seven outings.

Scott Mayfield supplied the game-tying goal at 11:16 of the third period.

Anthony Beauvillier ended his 10-game goalless drought with the game winner just over one minute into overtime.

Mathew Barzal recorded two assists, while Ondrej Palat, Andy Greene and Adam Pelech picked up one helper apiece.

Matt Martin was credited with a game-high seven hits, while Cal Clutterbuck and Pelech had six body checks each.

Blake Coleman and Mikhail Sergachev tied for the lead among skaters in the game with four blocked shots each.

Andrei Vasilevskiy shielded 25 of 28 shots in the loss, while Semyon Varlamov blocked 22 of 24 shots for the victory.
