Halifax, NS – Dalhousie Tigers men’s hockey head coach Chris Donnelly is pleased to announce the commitment of Nick Chenard for the 2023-24 season.
A 6-foot-5 goaltender, Chenard’s Owen Sound Attack were knocked out of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) playoffs in the first round earlier this month. Hailing from Tecumseh, Ontario, he played 35 games in the 2022-23 regular season for the Attack, posting a .873 save percentage. In his four years with Owen Sound, he played 93 regular season games, and maintained a 3.34 goals against average and a .892 save percentage. In the 2021-22 playoffs he was named the unsung hero for the Attack.
“I’m super excited to get an opportunity to go out east, play some great hockey and get a world-class education,” says Chenard. “I am excited to further my hockey career and meet new people.”
A member of the honour roll all four years at École Secondaire Catholique l’Essor, Chenard will be studying commerce at Dalhousie.
“Nick is an athletic goalie who has very good net presence and moves extremely well for his size,” says Donnelly. “He is a tremendous person who has experienced plenty of adversity in his four-year OHL career and has a team-first mentality. Our goaltending coach Craig Hillier is excited to get to work with Nick as he makes the transition from major junior to the AUS and our team is excited to be adding him to our dressing room.”
The Tigers look to return to playoff action in the 2023-24 season after just missing out last year.
