Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes has been named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week. Between November 25 and December 1, Hughes recorded eight assists and nine points over a four-game span. Macklin Celebrini of the San Jose Sharks was named the week’s First Star, while Jakob Chychrun of the Washington Capitals took home Third Star honours.

Not only did Hughes dominate on the scoresheet, he set a new franchise record this week. During Vancouver’s game against the Detroit Red Wings, he became the franchise’s all-time leader in assists by a defenceman at 311. Hughes would celebrate the night in style, recording three total assists and helping the Canucks capture an overtime win.
As of this writing, Hughes sits second in the NHL among defensemen with 28 points in 25 games. He is also tied for the even-strength points lead among defensemen with 17, while his 77 total shots rank fifth. Hughes is also averaging 24:52 per game, which is the ninth-highest time on ice in the NHL.
