Devils Sign Nico Daws to 2-Year Contract

NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Devils have re-signed goaltender Nico Daws to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $812,500. The contract details are as follows: 2024-25: Two-way deal, $775,000 at the NHL level and $350,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level ($465,000 guaranteed) and 2025-26: One-way deal at $850,000 at the NHL level.

The announcement was made by President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald and Devils’ Assistant General Manager/Utica Comets General Manager Dan MacKinnon.

The goaltender was among five restricted free agents the Devils made tenured qualifying offers to in June, along with Adam Beckman, Nolan Foote, Santeri Hatakka, and Dawson Mercer.

Daws appeared in 21 games for the Devils last season and 10 for the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League (AHL).

With a tandem of Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen in New Jersey, the belief is Daws will begin the season with the Comets, where he can further develop his game.

At 23 years old, Daws has appeared in 46 NHL games, including the 2024 NHL Stadium Series game against the New York Rangers, where he backstopped his team to a 6-3 victory.
