Dell, 35, is a player the Sharks certainly know well, as he played five seasons over two stints with the club. Now, the Airdrie, Alberta native will look to impress at training camp and land another contract with San Jose from here.
Dell spent the entirety of last season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Ontario Reign. In 12 appearances on the campaign, he had a 7-4-1 record, a .914 save percentage (SV%), and a 2.57 goals-against average (GAA). Overall, it was a solid year for the veteran.
The Sharks currently have goaltenders Yaroslav Askarov, Mackenzie Blackwood, and Vitek Vanecek under contract for next season. Because of this, the chances of Dell making the Sharks’ NHL roster are very slim. However, he undoubtedly could be a decent veteran addition to the San Jose Barracuda’s roster if he earns a contract.
In 130 career NHL games split between the Sharks, New Jersey Devils, and Sabres, Dell has a 50-50-13 record, a .905 SV%, and a 2.92 GAA. During his lone season as a Sabre in 2021-22, he sported a 1-8-1 record, a .893 SV%, and a 4.03 GAA in 12 games.
