Sunday is YourTV Hockey Day in the OHL:
Get ready for a triple-header of OHL action across the YourTV network on Sunday, starting with the Ottawa 67’s in Sarnia to visit the Sting at 1:00pm. The North Bay Battalion will play host to the Kingston Frontenacs at 4:00pm before the Owen Sound Attack round-out the schedule in Windsor to face the Spitfires at 7:00pm. Join host Terry Doyle in studio as the day’s action will be accompanied by special features and interviews detailing stories across the OHL.

Grayden Strohack commits to Firebirds:
The Flint Firebirds announced that defenseman Grayden Strohack has committed to an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement with the club. The Firebirds selected Strohack in the 3rd round (55th overall) in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. The blueliner has played 40 games this year with the St. Marys Lincolns of the GOJHL where he has produced 3 goals and 7 assists which ranks 5th among all 2006-born defensemen. Read more

February is here, signaling the start of CMHA Talk Today Month across the Ontario Hockey League. Throughout February, the OHL’s 17 Ontario-based member teams will host mental health awareness games in collaboration with their local CMHA branch. Originally launched by CMHA Ontario in partnership with the OHL in 2014, Talk Today provides an important opportunity to address the mental health needs of athletes across Canada. Read more

Frontenacs to host Pride night on Friday:
The Kingston Frontenacs are set to host their Pride night on Friday. Pride Night will celebrate Kingston’s LGBTQ2s+ community, while raising awareness about the importance of inclusion and respect in sport. Petes to host Pink in the Rink game on Saturday:
The Peterborough Petes are set to host their Pink in the Rink game on Saturday. The team will wear special theme jerseys designed by Kyle McDonald, which highlight the names of nearly 200 people who have battled cancer. In addition, the game jerseys feature a special PRHC Foundation shoulder crest and design inspired by classic hockey sweaters, paying tribute to Peterborough’s deep hockey roots, and the hockey moms that this year’s campaign is supporting. The Erie Otters are set to host their Star Wars night on Saturday where the first 1,500 fans will receive a Star Wars x Otters poster. There will be a ton of characters on the concourse!
Firebirds to host Flint Generals night on Saturday:
The Flint Firebirds are set to host their Flint Generals night on Saturday. The Flint Firebirds will be wearing Flint Generals specialty-themed jerseys and will be auctioned off following the conclusion of the Firebirds game. All jersey proceeds will benefit the Flint Firebirds Foundation. Read more

Rangers collect 2,750Ibs. of potatoes plus $4,600 in donations on Don Cameron Potato night:
The Kitchener Rangers had their fans out in full force last Friday night, collecting 2,750Ibs. in potato donations on Don Cameron Potato night at The Aud. The potatoes, along with $4,600 in cash donations, are donated to the House of Friendship that helps feed families across Kitchener and Waterloo region.

Wolves to retire Marc Staal’s #14 on Friday:
Sudbury Wolves blueliner Marc Staal is being honoured on Friday, as the Wolves retire his No. 14 jersey. Staal played four seasons with the Wolves from 2003-07, recording 23 goals, 100 assists and 123 points over 236 games. He was awarded the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the OHL’s most outstanding defenceman in 05-06. While Staal has played more than 1,000 NHL games in much larger rinks across the league, he will never forget the feeling of playing for those sold-out crowds in Sudbury. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a special jersey retirement banner rally towel. Read more
10 OHL alumni headed to South Florida for NHL All-Star Game:
A total of 10 OHL alumni including eight players and a pair of head coaches are headed to Sunrise, Florida this week to participate in the 2023 NHL All-Star Game. Read more
Beck makes NHL debut:
Peterborough Petes forward Owen Beck made his NHL debut with the Montreal Canadiens over the weekend. The centreman from Port Hope was recalled by the Canadiens on an emergency basis for Saturday’s game that resulted in a 5-0 win for the host Ottawa Senators. Beck played 9:48, blocking a shot and going 1-for-2 in the faceoff circle while finishing with a minus-one rating. Beck was returned to Peterborough following Saturday’s contest. Read more
OHL mourns the loss of Bobby Hull:
The Ontario Hockey League is saddened by the loss of alumnus, Stanley Cup champion and Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Bobby Hull. Nicknamed “The Golden Jet,” Hull is widely considered one of the greatest players in NHL history, winning the Hart Trophy twice along with seven different Maurice Richard Trophies as the NHL’s top goal-scorer. Hull got his start with the St. Catharines Teepees, playing two OHA seasons from 1955-57 before making the jump to the NHL. Read more
OHL mourns the loss of Hazel McCallion:
The Ontario Hockey League is saddened by news of the loss of former long-time Mayor of Mississauga and OHL supporter Hazel McCallion, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 101. McCallion, who served as Mayor of Mississauga from 1978 until 2014, played professional women’s hockey while attending school in Montreal, an interest and passion that carried over into her role as Mayor as she helped bring the OHL to Mississauga in 1998. In honour of Hazel’s memory, the Mississauga Steelheads will be wearing a patch on their jerseys for the remainder of the season. A reminder of all that she contributed to supporting the hockey club and the community. Read more
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen named NHL Rookie of the Month for January:
Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who led rookie netminders with six wins in nine starts (6-2-1) with a 2.05 goals-against-average and a .907 save percentage has been named the NHL’s “Rookie of the Month” for January. The 23-year-old from Espoo, FI, a second-round pick (54th overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft, shares second place among rookie goaltenders with 13 wins in 20 total contests this season. Selected by Sudbury in the 2018 Import Draft, Luukkonen recorded 38 wins in 53 games with the Wolves in 2018-19, earning First-Team All-Star, Most Outstanding Player of the Year and OHL Goaltender of the Year honours.
