The Philadelphia Flyers faced off against the Boston Bruins last night (Oct. 1). Overall, it was a tough game for the Flyers, as they fell to the Bruins by a 4-1 final score. The Flyers only had 14 shots on goal during the contest and were simply outplayed by the Bruins.

While it was a rough night for the Flyers, goaltender Samuel Ersson was a clear bright spot in the matchup. The 24-year-old netminder saved 30 out of 32 Bruins shots on the night. The Bruins’ final two goals were also empty-netters.
While Ersson picked up the loss, it was certainly not on him. In fact, his excellent play between the pipes kept the Flyers in this matchup far longer than they should have been.
This performance only helped build on Ersson’s strong pre-season thus far. In his two pre-season appearances, Ersson has saved 67 out of 69 shots he faced. He notably recorded a 37-save shutout against the New York Islanders on Sept. 26.
While it is only the pre-season, seeing Ersson put together two strong performances is encouraging. The 2018 fifth-round pick is the club’s starting goalie, so the hope from here is that he translates this play over to the regular season. If he does, the Flyers could be a surprise.
