Irwin spent a brief amount of time of his career with the Sabres. In 24 games with Buffalo, the 6-foot-2 defenseman had two assists, 43 blocks, 56 hits, and a minus-10 rating.
Irwin had a pretty long career as a journeyman defenseman in the NHL. In 461 career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks, Bruins, Nashville Predators, Anaheim Ducks, Sabres, and Washington Capitals, Irwin had 25 goals, 68 assists, 93 points, 211 penalty minutes, and 719 hits.
