Fox brings in ‘game changer’

by

Sheffield Steelers head coach Aaron Fox has described latest signing Sondre Olden as a ‘game changer.’

The 28-year-old will wear orange in the Elite Series after agreeing to a reunion with his former coach, with whom he worked with at Medvescak Zagreb.

And Fox is pleased to have the winger back on his team again and hopes he’ll play a big part in the five week campaign, which begins a week on Saturday.

“Sondre is a dynamic offensive player that is a game changer,” Fox said. “He comes to Sheffield with a wealth of European and national team experience and should fit nicely into our group.

“It will be good to work with him again, we were together in Zagreb and he was a top player for me and in our league.

“I’m excited to have him here for this series to show him what a great spot Sheffield is and hopefully help us achieve our goals in this series.”

Olden has a wealth of experience, playing in North America, Austria, Croatia, over 100 games in the SHL and over 20 appearances for Norway internationally, including four games in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

He spent last year in his homeland with Valerenga, but Covid-19 has heavily impacted the season in Norway.

He’s the third player to be announced today to come from the Norwegian league, following on from Max Krogdahl and Nicolai Bryhnisveen, who joined Coventry Blaze from Frisk Asker and Stavanger Oilers respectively.
