Golden Knights Placed Veteran Defensive Forward On Waivers

by admin

The Vegas Golden Knights have placed Zach Aston-Reese on waivers following the conclusion of pre-season.

The Golden Knights signed the 30-year-old winger to a one-year, two-way deal in the offseason. The contract will see him earn $775K with the Golden Knights and $475K with the Henderson Silver Knights.

Aston-Reese played in three pre-season games for the Golden Knights scoring two goals and three points. He showed flashes of what he can provide the Golden Knights and if he goes unclaimed, he will likely be one of the first forwards the Golden Knights call up to the NHL if they face any injuries to their forward group.

His game doesn’t offer much offense but defensively and on the penalty kill is where he proves his worth. He is aggressive on the forecheck willing to throw a hit when the opportunity is there. He’s strong on his stick and willing to lay his body out to block shots.

The Staten Island, New York native only played three games with the Detroit Red Wings last year but played in 77 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs the year prior.

If Aston-Reese goes unclaimed it will be a big win for the Golden Knights. Finding trustworthy depth pieces that can plug in and out of your lineup can be hard to find.
