Gustavus won its 13th MIAC playoff title in program history on Saturday.
SAINT PETER, Minn. – For the 13th time in program history, the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties are Women’s Hockey Playoff champions of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). The top-seeded Gusties defeated No. 2 seed Hamline, 6-1, in Saint Peter on Saturday afternoon.
Gustavus outscored its opponents 16-2 in three MIAC playoff contests. Saturday’s victory secured Gustavus its second MIAC playoff title in as many postseasons, as well as a berth in the 2022 NCAA Women’s Hockey Tournament. The entire national tournament field will be announced at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 6 on NCAA.com.

Six different Gusties scored goals in the championship game. Forward Hailey Holland got Gustavus on the board less than six minutes into the game and Hannah Gray found the back of the net 64 seconds later to give the Gusties a 2-0 lead after one period. Junior forward Sophie Rausch scored for Hamline at the 6:40 mark in the second, but it was all Gustavus from there on out, as Brooke Power answered two minutes later to give the Gusties a 3-1 lead with one period to play. Kayla Vrieze, Emily Olson, and Heather Olinger scored in the third frame to put the game out of reach. In addition to scoring goals of their own, Power, Holland, and Olson also assisted on Gustavus scores as well.
Following the game, Gustavus received the MIAC Playoff Championship plaque, as well as the Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Gustavus will learn its next opponent on Sunday night when the NCAA releases its 2022 national tournament field. Hamline will remain hopeful for one of the three at-large bids to the Tournament.
