BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – For the second time in the last four postseasons, No. 1 Gustavus will host No. 2 Hamline in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women’s Hockey Playoff championship game.

The top-seeded Gusties defeated No. 4 St. Scholastica, 5-0, in the semifinals on Wednesday night, while the No. 2 Pipers topped No. 3 Saint Mary’s, 4-2.

Gustavus and Hamline have met in the MIAC Playoffs three times before; the Gusties claimed semifinal victories in 2007 and 2008, while Hamline won the last matchup in the 2018 playoff title game. The two programs played twice this season with Hamline taking a 2-1 overtime win at home on February 11 and the Gusties winning, 4-2, on their home ice the following day.

The 2022 playoff championship game is tentatively scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5 at Gustavus’ Don Roberts Ice Arena. Start times for the MIAC men’s and women’s hockey playoff championship games may be adjusted due to weather impact and facility availability.

Brooke Power scored twice and the Gustie defense held St. Scholastica to just 10 shots on goal in a 5-0 semifinal win on Wednesday night to send Gustavus to the MIAC Women’s Hockey Playoff championship. Both Emily Olson and Hannah Gray were credited with a goal and an assist each in the win. Allie Bussey led the Saints with three shots in the game.

Six different Pipers factored into the scoring on Wednesday night in a 4-2 semifinal victory over No. 3 seeded Saint Mary’s. Junior forward Sophie Rausch had a goal and an assist in the win, while Emme Nelson was credited with a pair of helpers. After going down 4-0 in the second period, the Cardinals scored the final two goals of the game with Sidney Polzin assisting on one and scoring the other.


CHAMPIONSHIP SET FOR SATURDAY
The 2022 MIAC Women’s Hockey Playoff Championship is tentatively set to be played on Saturday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. A win for the Gusties would be their MIAC-best 13th in program history, while the Pipers will be playing for their second postseason title. The winner of the playoff championship game will receive the MIAC’s automatic qualifier to the 2022 NCAA Division III Women’s Hockey Tournament.

Proper masking is required at all indoor, on-campus MIAC facilities. Ticket prices for all playoff games will be determined at the discretion of the host institution.
