ST. CATHARINES, ON – The Niagara IceDogs have hired Evan McGrath in a Player Development role.
Long-time OHL fans will recognize the name Evan McGrath. Drafted in the first round by the Kitchener Rangers in the 2002 OHL Priority Selection, Evan went on to play four seasons with the Rangers. The Oakville, Ont. native won a Memorial Cup with the Rangers in 2003 and reached the postseason every year he played with the franchise. McGrath ranks fourth overall in all-time points in Kitchener Rangers history. He was part of the CHL Top Prospects Game and the OHL All-Star Game multiple times. Evan was also part of Canada’s Under-18 Team at the World Junior Challenge in 2003-04.
McGrath was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round (128th overall) of the 2004 NHL Draft. The former centreman went on to play a successful 13-year professional career, starting in the American Hockey League and eventually venturing off to Europe.
Currently living in Niagara Falls with his family, McGrath will be joining the IceDogs Hockey Operations team.
