The Islanders announced Monday that they have acquired center Bo Horvat from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for left wing Anthony Beauvillier, center Aatu Raty, and a conditional 2023 first-round pick.
Horvat, 27, is currently having his best season in the NHL with 54 points (31 goals, 23 assists) over 49 games and is on pace to beat his single-season career-high in points (61) set during the 2018-2019 season. He was originally drafted by the Canucks with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft and has played his entire nine-year career there since making his debut in 2014.
Horvat is in the final year of a six-year, $33 million deal that he signed prior to the 2017-2018 season and is set to become an unrestricted free-agent at the end of the year.
Beauvillier, 24, was drafted by the Isles with the No. 28 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and recorded 209 points (102 goals, 107 assists) over seven seasons with the team. He set a single-season career-high 39 points (18 goals, 21 assists) during the 2019-2020 season and has recorded just 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) over 49 games this year. He is in the second year of a three-year, $12,450,000 contract and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free-agent after the 2023-2024 season.
Raty, 20, was a second-round pick (No. 52 overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft from Finland and made his NHL debut this season. He scored his first-career goal in his debut game on Dec. 23 against the Florida Panthers when he logged a career-high 11:25 minutes on the ice. Raty has played in a total of 12 games and has recorded two goals. He has also produced 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 27 games this season with the Bridgeport Islanders in the AHL.
The Islanders own a 25-22-5 record with 55 points over 52 games this season, and are currently in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division and in tenth place overall in the Eastern Conference. They are three points behind the Washington Capitals for the top Wild Card spot and two points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the Wild Card second spot.
