The NHL announced on Thursday night that Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin has been added to the 2023 NHL All-Star game roster, as part of the All-Star fan vote.
Sorokin will join teammate Brock Nelson, who was named to the initial roster earlier this month, at the events. This is the first-career All-Star game appearance for both players.
This is also the first time seen 2018 that two players will represent the Islanders at the All-Star Game.
Sorokin has been a rock in net for the Islanders since making his debut back in 2020. Through 108 career games with the Islanders, he’s has posted a 54-38-14 record, 2.32 goals against average and .924 save percentage.
This season, Sorokin has appeared in 34 games, 32 of which he’s made the start in, and he’s posted a 15-14-3 record. Prior to Thursday night’s loss, he ranked ranked fifth in the NHL in GAA (2.30), third in save percentage (.925), and second with three shutouts.
The 2023 NHL All-Star weekend will take place on Feb. 3 and 4 in Florida. The Skills Competition will be on Friday and the All-Star game will be on Saturday.
