Jack D’Arcy commits to Firebirds – Ontario Hockey League

by

Flint, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds announced today that defenseman Jack D’Arcy has committed to an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement with the club.

“We’d like to welcome Jack and his family to the Flint Firebirds organization,” General Manager Dave McParlan said. We believe he’s going to be a great addition to our team and look forward to being a part of his development as a player, and a person.”

The Firebirds selected D’Arcy in the sixth round of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection (#114 overall). The 5-foot-9, 143-pound defenseman produced 4 G and 8 A in 33 GP for the U16 Cambridge Hawks (U16 Alliance) to go along with 60 PIMs, which ranked sixth in the Alliance U16. Additionally, his 12 points ranked 19th among all defensemen. In five playoff games with the Hawks, he also added 2 G and 4 A in 5 GP.

“It feels awesome (committing to Flint),” D’Arcy said. “Growing up, I always dreamed of playing in the OHL so it’s just a really great feeling.”

In addition to playing with the Hawks, he saw action in two games for the Ayr Centennials of the GOJHL and three playoff games with the U18 Waterloo Wolves (U18 Alliance).

“I can’t wait to be a Flint Firebird,” the right-shot blueliner said. “I’ve heard great things about them and about the fans. I just can’t wait to get started.”

The Cambridge, Ont. native becomes the fourth prospect of the Firebirds 2023 Draft Class, and the first defenseman, to commit to Flint joining three forwards: Jeremy Martin, Jimmy Lombardi, and Max Anderson.

“I think of myself as a two-way player,” D’Arcy added. “Defense of course comes first but if I can, I’m going to jump into the rush and add some offense to the game as well.”

Scouting Report from Head Scout Mike Oliverio: “Jack has a lot of upside potential with a very high ceiling. Our staff feels he can be a valuable component on the power play. He has a strong hockey IQ and good vision and decision-making ability.”
