Karabela caps Storm comeback in overtime – Ontario Hockey League

London Knights 3, Guelph Storm 4 – OT

  • Washington Capitals prospect Jake Karabela scored the game winner 1:47 into overtime.
  • The Storm led 2-1 after forty minutes, but after a pair of Knights goals it was Cooper Walker who forced overtime tying the game with 1:08 remaining.
  • Logan Mailloux scored his 22nd of the season to regain the lead in OHL defenceman goal-scoring.
  • Guelph’s fourth straight win moved the Storm into a tie for fifth place in the Western Conference with the Owen Sound Attack.

Ottawa 67’s 4, Oshawa Generals 5 – OT

  • Calum Ritchie set up Dylan Roobroeck for the OT winner 3:28 into the extra frame with a highlight-reel effort.
  • Matthew Buckley’s first multi-goal game of the season featured a pair of shorthanded markers, he was named first star in the game.
  • Ducks prospect Pavel Mintyukov recorded three assists in the loss, he continues to pace OHL defencemen in assists with 54.
  • Logan Morrison extended his goal scoring streak to eight games, tying the game in the final minute of regulation.
  • The 67’s outshot the Generals 45-27 as Carter Bickle stopped 41 shots for the win.
  • The Generals climb three points ahead of Kingston for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Barrie Colts 9, Niagara IceDogs 4

  • The win secured the Colts a spot in the 2023 OHL Playoffs.
  • Brandt Clarke opened the scoring late in the first period for Barrie, the goal gave him 135 points in his OHL career passing Luch Nasato for the most by a Colts Defenceman.
  • Tyler Savard tied his career-high for points in a game with four assists, it’s the most assists he’s ever recorded in an OHL game.
  • Seven different Colts recorded multi-goal games while fifteen players found the scoresheet for Barrie.
  • The win coupled with North Bay’s loss to Sarnia moved the Colts within one point of the Troops for the Central division lead.
  • The IceDogs were outshot 41-8 through 40 minutes and 52-18 in the game.

Sudbury Wolves 3, Hamilton Bulldogs 1

  • Kocha Delic assisted on Quentin Musty’s marker as well as scoring an insurance marker of his own.
  • Kevyn Brassard made 14 saves in the victory, the Wolves outshot the Bulldogs 25-15.
  • Sudbury’s third straight win moved the Wolves to within two points of Hamilton for sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

Windsor Spitfires 8, Kingston Frontenacs 4

  • Spitfires Captain Matthew Maggio scored twice and added two assists to reach 200 points in his OHL career.
  • Shane Wright was back in the lineup in his return to Kingston; he scored and added a pair of assists in the win.
  • Windsor’s Liam Greentree scored his 25th goal of the season, the most among OHL rookies.
  • Gage Heyes scored twice nine seconds apart in the third period setting a new Frontenacs franchise record, besting Geoff Schneider’s record from 1990 of two goals in 10 seconds. Heyes has seven points in his last three games.
  • Kingston has lost seven in a row, falling three points out of a playoff spot.

Soo Greyhounds 0, Kitchener Rangers 3

  • Marco Costantini made 40 saves for his third shutout of the season and ninth of his OHL career.
  • Winnipeg Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin opened the scoring early in the third period after Costantini and Charlie Schenkel stole the show through the opening 40 minutes.
  • Dallas Stars prospect Francesco Arcuri scored his 39th of the season into an empty net and finished the game with a goal and two assists.
  • The victory extended the Rangers lead over the Greyhounds for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference to eight points.

Saginaw Spirit 2, Flint Firebirds 3

  • Ethan Hay built on his multi-goal game on Saturday, scoring again and adding an assist to be named first star in the Firebirds victory.
  • Nathan Day made his second consecutive start in net making 26 saves for his fourth straight win.
  • Assisting on Amadeus Lombardi’s opening marker, Gavin Hayes extended his current point-streak to 11 games, the longest current streak in the OHL.
  • Prior to the game Mitchell Smith was named the 23rd captain in Spirit history, he scored and added an assist in the loss.

North Bay Battalion 2, Sarnia Sting 8

  • The Sting set a new high for a single game power play markers on the season going 5-for-9 on the man-advantage.
  • Sasha Pastujov, Luca Del Bel Belluz and Nolan Burke each scored twice, they were named the three stars in the victory.
  • Burke, a Nashville Predators prospect, scored his 39th and 40th goals of the season.
  • San Jose Sharks prospect Ben Gaudreau made 33 saves in the victory as the Sting were outshot 35-27.
