Manchester Storm forward Ciaran Long admits the goal of being included in the Great Britain World Championship squad is a big incentive for him in the Elite Series.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a great start to the competition, bagging four goals and an assist in Storm’s first three games.

And, after missing out on the Worlds in Slovakia two years ago, he’s determined to be at the forefront of national coach Pete Russell’s thoughts this time around.

“This competition is a massive incentive for me to try and get into the GB team for the World Championships,” Long, a guest on this week’s BIH Show, said.

“As I’ve said before, it’s one of the biggest dreams to play for your country and I don’t think it would be any prouder for the chance to do that.

“All I can do is work as hard as I can and put up some numbers and see what happens.  It’s all I can do.

“It’s a big driver for me and with Covid – plus I know quite a few guys went abroad – it’s made it a more level playing field for us all.

“If it’s anything to go by, you would presume players on form would be looked at so all I can do is hopefully keep my run going and see where we are by the end of it.”
