With another elongated break for the Maple Leafs, the William Nylander debate rages on in Toronto.
Hell, I would argue it’s already hit a fever pitch.
At any rate, we kicked off the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing my disdain for the NFL. I don’t know about any of you reading this, but I’m rattled there’s no NHL action tonight and the slate will also be dark for American Thanksgiving on Thursday. Boo! After I got that off my chest, Rosey and I discussed the reported proposed plan for a potential international competition in February 2025. For all intents and purposes, it sounds ridiculous. It sounds like it could be a week-long event with only four nations participating (Canada, United States, Sweden, Finland). Like seriously, WTF is that? Bizarre.
Presented by Door Dash, in The Appetizer aka the opening segment of the show, Rosey and I offered up a confidence check for this Leafs team right now. Surprisingly, I’m a bit more bullish about this team now that they’re riding a four-game win streak. That said, we both agreed that there’s no question that the blueline needs tinkering.
Meantime, brought to you by SOBER CARPENTER, former NHLer Matthew Barnaby stopped by for a chat. As per usual, he had plenty to say. We talked team toughness, Ryan Reaves, William Nylander, and if he views the Leafs – as currently constructed – as a serious Stanley Cup contender. Hint: It’s not yes.
Lastly, brought to you by the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor, we took a look at what’s been happening on the farm. Led by Alex Steeves’ 11 goals in 14 outings, the Marlies are off to a solid 8-4-2 start. You love to see it.
