BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – With a month left to play before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women’s Hockey Playoffs, every team in the league has at least one conference victory and six squads are sitting at 0.500 or better in conference percentage points. MIAC squads appear poised for an exciting conclusion to the regular season heading into the all-comers tournament at the end of February.

POLL TALK
Gustavus held strong at No. 6 in the latest USCHO.com Division III Top 10 Poll, released on January 24.

Gustavus ranks fifth in Division III in the most recent PairWise rankings. Hamline is No. 22 and Augsburg is No. 25.


NATIONAL NOTABLES
Augsburg sophomore forward Kensie Malone has three short-handed goals this season, third-most in NCAA Division III.

Concordia sophomore Jerica Friese has six power-play goals this season, fourth-most in NCAA Division III.

Gustavus junior forward Hailey Holland is tied for sixth in NCAA Division III this season with an average of 1.00 assists per game.

Gustavus sophomore forward Brooke Power has five power-play goals this season, tied for fifth-most in D-III.

Gustavus junior goaltender Katie McCoy has a goals-against average of 1.255 this season, ninth-best in Division III this season. She leads D-III and ranks second in all divisions of women’s college hockey with six shutouts.

St. Olaf junior forward Annika Patterson had two short-handed goals against Concordia on 11/20, becoming one of just two players in NCAA Division III with multiple short-handed goals in a single game this season.


AROUND THE MIAC
Augsburg first-year forward Emily Cronkhite scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Auggies in a weekend sweep of St. Catherine. On 1/21, she assisted on Augsburg’s first goal, then scored the game-winner on an unassisted move with 21 seconds left in overtime, as the Auggies rallied from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 road win. On 1/22, she scored the middle goal of a three-goal spurt in a 3:32 span to open the game, part of Augsburg’s 7-2 home victory.

Bethel senior goaltender Mallory Tidona led the Royals to a sweep of St. Olaf in the team’s first action since 12/8 by not allowing a single goal in either game as Bethel won by scores of 2-0 and 1-0. Tidona was sharp as the Royals held one-goal leads for much of the series. The shutouts were the fifth and sixth of her career and the second time she has posted back-to-back shutouts.

Concordia sophomore Jerica Friese has scored seven goals in the Cobbers’ last six games including one goal in each of the last four. Friese accounted for both of the team’s scores in last weekend’s two-game series with Gustavus.

Gustavus sophomore forward Brooke Power scored the game-winning goal and dished out an assist in the 3-1 Gustie win over the Cobbers on 1/21 and added another goal and an assist in the 5-1 victory over Concordia to complete the sweep on 1/22. Her power-play goal in the second game was her fifth of the year, tied for the fifth-most in Division III.

Hamline first-year forward Nikki Olund scored both of the team’s goals in a 3-2 loss against Saint Mary’s on 1/21. She went on to contribute an assist in a 4-1 victory over the Cardinals the following day and accumulated a +4 for the series.

Saint Benedict sophomore forward Isabelle Heim scored the team’s lone goal in a 3-1 loss to St. Scholastica on 1/22. Heim has two goals this season, with both coming in the team’s last three games.

St. Catherine junior forward Marie Reimer had a three-point weekend in two games against Augsburg. Reimer had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Auggies on 1/21 and added another goal in a road loss the following afternoon.

Saint Mary’s senior defender Delaney Wolf scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes to play against Hamline on 1/21. Wolf also assisted on the team’s only goal in a 4-1 loss to the Pipers on 1/22.

St. Olaf senior goaltender Ivy Shonka recorded 52 saves, a 1.52 goals-against average, and a 0.945 save percentage for the Oles in their series against Bethel last weekend. The senior made 30 saves in a 2-0 road loss on 1/21 – her third game this season with at least 30 saves – before stopping 22-of-23 shots in a 1-0 home loss the following afternoon.

St. Scholastica senior goaltender Lori Huseby stopped 43 of the 44 shots she faced in a 3-1 win over Saint Benedict on 1/22. The 43 saves mark the second-highest single-game total of her collegiate career.
