Michael Bunting’s wedding was also the Maple Leafs’ unofficial summer reunion

by

It’s not a cliche when players tell reporters that their teammates are like family and Michael Bunting’s wedding served as an unofficial Toronto Maple Leafs reunion.

Bunting, who is now a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins, evidently still keeps in touch with his former Maple Leafs comrades. Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Morgan Rielly, Mitch Marner, Jake Muzzin, Alexander Kerfoot and Frederik Andersen joined Bunting for a group photo at his wedding.

Penguins vice president of player personnel Wes Clark was also in attendance and posted a photo to Instagram. Clark previously served as the Maple Leafs’ director of amateur scouting before joining the Penguins this summer, where he’ll directly reporter to current Penguins general manager and former Leafs executive Kyle Dubas. Dubas hired Jason Spezza immediately last summer and Pittsburgh appears to be the place to be for Dubas-era holdovers. Bunting signed with the Carolina Hurricanes but Dubas and the Penguins traded for him in March for a package surrounding Jake Guentzel.

By all accounts, Bunting and Jordan McDonnell’s wedding seemed to be a great time! Steph Marner and Amber Brodie were in attendance as well and the Maple Leafs made sure to crash the photo booth during the July 20 reception. We’ll keep you posted if we get the set list from the DJ.

It’s a cool moment to see for this iteration of the Maple Leafs, who have stuck together through intense scrutiny during the past decade. Bunting loved playing for the Maple Leafs, which was evident from his playing style, his penchant for drawing penalties and agitating the league’s best defenders. Off the ice, Bunting’s charismatic personality made him a favourite in the locker room and his former teammates came flocking to what appears to be the unofficial event of the summer for the Maple Leafs.
