New Sabres Forward Could Be Big Surprise

by admin

The Buffalo Sabres have had a tough start to their 2024-25 campaign. They lost both of their Global Series matchups against the New Jersey Devils in regulation. Due to this, they must now bounce back to avoid the dreaded 0-3-0 start.

The Sabres scored only one goal in each of their first two games, so their offense has had a very slow start. In addition, only six of their players have one point on the season. Newcomer Beck Malenstyn is among the large group of Sabres who have yet to record a point this campaign.

While Malenstyn’s start to the season has been fairly quiet, the 26-year-old undoubtedly has the potential to be a pleasant surprise for the Sabres this season. The 2016 fifth-round pick took a big step forward in his development last season, posting new career highs with six goals, 15 assists, 21 points, and 241 hits. Overall, it was a strong year from the Delta, British Columbia native, and it is why the Sabres gave up a second-round pick to land him.

However, Malenstyn has the potential to hit another level offensively this season. While the 6-foot-3 winger is currently in his fifth NHL season, last season was his first full campaign at the NHL level. Thus, he was still adjusting to the sport’s most challenging league last campaign. With this, he still has room for more growth as he continues to gain more NHL experience.

It will be fun to see what kind of season Malenstyn puts up from here. If he sees an increase in offense and maintains his immensely physical style of play, he could be a home run of an addition to Buffalo’s bottom six.
