BOSTON, MA – (November 22, 2022) – The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced its Three Stars of the Week following weekend action played November 18-20, 2022. For the second straight week, the trio of top performers are all Canadian newcomers and include forward Sarah Bujold of the Metropolitan Riveters, goaltender Corinne Schroeder of the Boston Pride, and forward Leah Lum of the Toronto Six.
First Star: Sarah Bujold led the PHF in weekend scoring with five points including four goals and one assist as the Riveters split their weekend series at home against Toronto. On Saturday the 26-year-old from Riverview, New Brunswick had a hand in the team’s first three goals ever scored inside The Rink at American Dream. She sniped shorthanded on a breakaway, assisted on Kelly Babstock’s goal, and then scored a power play marker in the 6-3 victory that counts as the team’s first win of the new campaign. Her two goals on Sunday were once again special team tallies, with one shorthanded and another on the power play that provided all the Riveters’ offense in a 5-2 loss. Bujold signed with the Riveters following three seasons playing in the SDHL where she amassed 85 points over 97 games. Her collegiate career was played at St. Francis Xavier University, highlighted by U SPORTS Player of the Year honors in 2017.
Second Star: Corinne Schroeder is recognized for the second time this season after earning first star honors for her standout play during opening weekend. The Boston backstop posted two more victories in Minnesota including a third straight shutout to launch her professional career. The 23-year-old from Elm Creek, Manitoba stopped all 49 shots faced on Friday in the 2-0 victory to become the first goaltender in PHF history with three blanks in a row. Her shutout streak came to a halt on Saturday after 183:15 of scoreless action to start the season, but her 29 saves were still enough to give the Pride the 5-4 overtime edge to claim five of a possible six points on the road. Through four victories the Quinnipiac University graduate carries a goals-against-average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .972 as Boston holds onto first place with four wins and 11 points.
Third Star: Leah Lum helped turn the table in Toronto’s favor on Sunday with a 5-2 victory over the Riveters where she scored twice with one assist. Her first goal opened the first period scoring, while her third period tally held as the game-winner. She also picked up an assist on a goal by Emma Woods for the second straight game to finish the weekend with four points. The 26-year-old from Richmond, British Columbia has five points through her first four career PHF games and is riding a three-game point streak after scoring her first goal Nov. 6 against Minnesota. Lum is a University of Connecticut graduate who joined T6 after playing four seasons overseas with the KRS Vanke Rays. She also competed as a member of the Chinese National Women’s Team at the 2022 Olympics and IIHF D1B World Championship where she won gold and led the tournament with 15 points in five games.
