NORTHFIELD, VT. – Alayna Toole ’26 netted a game-tying goal for the Elmira College women’s hockey program early in the second period but a goal with under two minutes to play in the third period vaulted the Norwich University Cadets to a 3-1 victory on Saturday in New England Hockey Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Norwich opened the scoring in the first period as Madison Anderson found the back of the net at the 14:22 mark to give the Cadets a 1-0 lead.
- The Soaring Eagles would get a power-play opportunity later in the first period looking to knot the score but would be unable to tally the equalizer despite registering three shots on goal.
- Elmira wouldn’t wait long to knot the score in the second period as Toole found the back of the net just 37 seconds into action. Anna Lugge ’27 and Erika Goleniak ’25 recorded assists on Toole’s first goal of the season.
- Toole’s goal would be the lone tally of the frame as Elmira goalkeeper Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 turned away 12 shots to keep the score 1-1 through 40 minutes of action.
- The Soaring Eagles would successfully kill three Norwich power-play opportunities in the period, including one in the final four minutes.
- Norwich would tally the eventual game-winning goal with just under two minutes left to play in the third period as Marja Linzbichler beat Kuehberger to make it 2-1. The Cadets added an empty netter with less than 30 seconds to play to close the scoring at 3-1.
- Kuehberger finished the contest with 19 saves for the Soaring Eagles, while Norwich goalkeeper Leocadia Clark made 26 saves to backstop the Cadets to the victory.
