After much speculation and a few cryptic tweets, the Edmonton Oilers are bringing back a classic look.
For the 2022-23 season, the team announced today that their royal blue jersey will be the franchise’s primary home jersey, with the classic white jersey serving as their away uniform.
The iconic look was first worn from 1979-80 until 1995-96 before the team adopted copper and navy blue for 1996-97. The original look made its return for 2009-10 and was worn until 2016-17.
The navy blue alternates, worn for every home game this past spring during the playoffs, will remain in the jersey rotation.
Additionally, as first reported by Tom Gazzola of TSN 1260, the Oilers will bring back the Todd McFarlane-designed jerseys which debuted in 2001, but this time with a white base.
No announcement has come from the team yet in regards to what it will look like.
The response from Oiler fans on the uniform news has been overwhelmingly positive, especially with fans making it clear they never wanted the look to go away in the first place.
