On Nylander, Klingberg, the NHL Global Series, & why Patrick Kane to Toronto makes zero sense: Leafs Morning Take

by

T-minus two sleeps until the Leafs hit the ice in Sweden for their first of two NHL Global Series games.

Rightfully so, William Nylander remains the talk of the town overseas, which by the way, is quietly providing some much-need chill time for the likes of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and others. Furthermore, I think Nylander’s getting a healthy dose of what life would be like as THE guy for a team. He’s very well insulated in Toronto, and quite frankly, I think he should remember that as he ponders his future.

At any rate, Carter Hutton joined me for the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. To kick off the show, we talked about Carter’s time taking part in the Global Series a few years ago when he was a member of the Buffalo Sabres. He said it was unique —that’s for sure.

Presented by DoorDash, The Appetizer continued to focus on Nylander and his amazing start to his contract year. Additionally, we discussed some of the lineup news from practice: John Klingberg missed his third straight practice and Conor Timmins is not close just yet either.

After that, we revisited the Patrick Kane conversation. On Tuesday, NHL Insider John Shannon reported that the Leafs met with Kane and his representatives earlier in the day. For what it’s worth, Hutts and I both agreed that the fit just doesn’t make sense.

Meantime, brought to you by the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor, we took a look at the Atlantic Division standings. Also, stemming from the story out of the GM meetings in Toronto, we talked about 3-on-3 OT and if the league needs to make changes to it.

Jay Rosehill will be back in the mix on the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us as we continue to preview the two Global Series games. Also, former Maple Leaf Jonas Hoglund will join us.
