Kingston, Ont. – The Kingston Frontenacs have signed prospect Paul Hughes to a Standard Player Agreement.

Hughes, a 6-foot-1, 163 lbs., 2003 born forward from Ottawa, ON was selected by the Kingston Frontenacs in the 1st round, 5th overall at the 2020 OHL Under-18 Priority Selection.

Paul was drafted following an impressive 2019-20 season with the Kanata Lasers U-18 AAA. In 45 games he recorded 25 goals and 36 assists for 61 points. He also had four goals and three assists in four playoff games.

When asked about the signing, Head Coach and General Manager Paul McFarland said, “Paul will be a great addition to our young core. In our viewings this season he has stood out as a player who has great IQ and makes good puck touches in small areas. We are excited to have him join our group and continue his progression at the OHL level.”

The 18-year-old has spent the 2020-21 season with the CCHL’s Renfrew Wolves.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play for the Frontenacs. I couldn’t be more excited to join the team,” said Hughes.
