The Pittsburgh Penguins made a roster adjustment on Friday morning, calling up former first-round pick Owen Pickering from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
It’s been an exciting week for the 20-year-old, who scored his first professional goal on Wednesday against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He has one point in 12 games in the AHL.
Pickering was the 21st overall pick from the 2022 Draft and spent the past four seasons in the WHL with the Swift Current Broncos, where he scored a career-high 46 points last year and served as captain from 2022 to 2024.
Meanwhile, the Penguins have yet to announce a corresponding move, but the club currently has eight defensemen on its main roster, which already includes 16 forwards and two goalies.
Today’s announcement is the latest in a busy week that has included Matt Nieto’s recall and Joel Blomqvist’s demotion.
