The Pittsburgh Penguins announced they have recalled forwards Matt Nieto and Vasily Ponomarev from their AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, they also sent goaltender Joel Blomqvist to the AHL.
Blomqvist has made eight starts for Pittsburgh this season and largely played well, recording a 3-5 record with a .904 SV% and 3.60 GAA.
The 22-year-old posted a 25-12-6 record with a .921 SV% and 2.16 GAA with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season. He was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team, AHL All-Star Game, and AHL Second All-Star Team.
With Alex Nedeljkovic and Tristan Jarry back in the NHL this move will give Blomqvist the opportunity to start games.
Nieto has one goal in two game with WBS this season. He notched four points in 22 games with Pittsburgh last season.
Ponomarev has one assist in five AHL games this season. He split time between four teams last season. He has played two career NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes and scored a goal and added an assist.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton currently sit at 8-3-1 and have allowed just 29 goals in 12 games. Their next game comes Nov. 16 against the Bridgeport Islanders.
