The Nashville Predators have signed free agent forward Nino Niederreiter to a two-year, $8 million contract ($4 million AAV).

Niederreiter scored 24 goals and added 20 assists for 44 points in 75 games for the Carolina Hurricanes last season.

The 29-year-old has 181 goals and 187 assists for 368 points in 732 career NHL games in 12 seasons split between the New York Islanders, the Minnesota Wild and the Hurricanes.

The Chur, Switzerland native was selected by the Islanders with the fifth-overall pick of the 2010 NHL Draft. He appeared in only 64 games for New York, recording 3 points, before he was traded to Minnesota for forward Cal Clutterbuck and a third-round pick.

Niederreiter found his game with the Wild, emerging as a goalscorer and breaking out for a career-best 25-goal, 57-point season in 2016-2017. Minnesota inked him to a five-year, $26.25 million deal ($5.25 million AAV) the following offseason.

He was traded to Carolina in Jan. 2019 for forward Victor Rask.

The Predators have had quite the offseason to this point, re-signing star forward Filip Forsberg to a huge eight-year, $68 million extension ($8.5 million AAV), and acquiring two-time Stanley Cup champion defenceman Ryan McDonagh from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
