Riva’s Two-Goal Night Propels Elmira Past Beacons, 5-0

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Holley Riva ’23 netted a pair of goals to lead the fourth-ranked Elmira College women’s ice hockey program past UMass Boston in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) matchup on Friday night at the Murray Athletic Center.

Morgan Mordini ’22, Mary McCafferty ’22, and Erika Goleniak ’25 each recorded a pair of assists in the contest for the Purple & Gold.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Riva would open the scoring on the night for the Soaring Eagles just over 12 minutes into the first period as she beat the Beacons’ netminder to make it 1-0 at the 12:32 mark. Goleniak and McCafferty both helped to set up Riva’s first tally of the night.

Claire Meeder ’23 increased the lead for the Purple & Gold to 2-0 at the 16:01 mark. Meeder took a pass from Mordini and would find the back of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Madi Morton ’24 would get credit for the secondary assist on Meeder’s goal.

The lone goal of the second period would come off the stick of Riva as she would find the back of the net at the 11:08 mark of the frame to make it 3-0. Goleniak and McCafferty both helped to set up Riva’s second tally of the contest for the Soaring Eagles.

Elmira tallied a pair of goals in the third period to add to its lead over the Beacons as MK Boyle ’26 netted her second career goal at the 4:58 mark to give the Purple & Gold a 4-0 advantage. Mordini and Meeder helped to set up the goal as Boyle found herself wide open in front of the goalkeeper.

Claire Elfring ’25 closed the scoring for the Soaring Eagles at the 11:17 mark of the third period as her second goal of the season gave Elmira a 5-0 lead. The goal would come with the Soaring Eagles on the penalty kill as Elfring netted her first career short-handed goal and Elmira’s second of the season. Emma Bradbury ’26 netted the lone assist on Elfring’s tally for the Soaring Eagles.

Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 stopped each of the 10 shots that the Beacons put on net in the contest as Kuehberger notched a fourth consecutive shutout between the pipes for Elmira. The shutout was Elmira’s fifth consecutive as a team dating back to EC’s 3-0 victory against Southern Maine on November 4.
