The Buffalo Sabres announced their roster for the 2024 Prospects Challenge on Tuesday. The tournament features rookies from the Boston Bruins, Columbus Blue Jackets, New Jersey Devils, Ottawa Senators, and Pittsburgh Penguins, with each club playing games on Friday, Saturday, and Monday.

The Sabres will play the Blue Jackets on Friday, September 13th at 7 pm,  the Devils on Saturday, September 14th at 7 pm, and the Penguins on Monday, September 16th at 5 pm at the LECOM Harborcenter with a group of 22 players, which includes 17 draft choices and five first-round picks.

2024 top pick Konsta Helenius, who will play in North America this season instead of returning to Finland, highlights a group that includes first-rounders, Ryan Johnson (2019), Isak Rosen (2021), Noah Ostlund, Jiri Kulich (2022) and 12 other draft picks (forwards Aleksandr Kisakov, Tyson Kozak, Ethan Miedema, Olivier Nadeau, Viktor Neuchev, Anton Wahlberg, defensemen Simon-Pier Brunet, Vsevolod Komarov (2024 QMJHL defenseman of the year), Nikita Novikov, Norwin Panocha and goalies Ryerson Leenders, and Scott Ratzlaff).

Forward Tyler Tullio, who was acquired in the deal along with center Ryan McLeod for Matthew Savoie, will also play, along with three players on AHL deals (Riley Fiddler-Schultz, Ty Cheveldayoff, and Noah Laaouan) and an invitee in 18-year-old Sarnia Sting defenseman Jack Bodin.

Last September, the prospect challenge saw impressive performances by forwards Savoie and Zach Benson and had consequences on the Sabres season. The plan going into training camp appeared to be for Savoie to stay in the NHL since he could not be demoted to the American Hockey League, but an upper-body injury late in the tournament allowed Benson more of an opportunity during the exhibition schedule and enabled the 18-year-old winger to make the Sabres roster.
