It’s a blast from the past in Buffalo.
In response to increased public demand, the Buffalo Sabres unveiled plans for a new alternate jersey on Wednesday morning, announcing that the club will once again don the iconic “Goathead” uniform for select home games during the upcoming 2022-23 NHL season, beginning in November.
The actual design of the jersey was not revealed in the announcement. However, fans should have a pretty good idea of what it will eventually look like, given how the Sabres used that particular branding as their primary uniforms from 1996 to 2006.
According to the official team announcement, the Sabres will officially reveal the design of the jersey in early November, after which the club will wear them for 12 select home games during the season, beginning on Nov. 23 versus the St. Louis Blues, which will be branded as 90’s Night.
Information on when the jerseys will be made available for purchase by fans has not yet been revealed. Fans can purchase select black-and-red Sabres branded gear currently at the team’s online store, including t-shirts, hoodies, long-sleeved tees, and mugs.
With the recent re-introduction of the franchise’s original blue-and-yellow jerseys as the team’s primary kit now being accented by the return of the Goathead as an alternate, the Sabres may very well have the best uniform combination in the entire NHL and are sure to make nostalgic fans very excited about what should be a far more enjoyable season.
