Guelph, ON – General Manager George Burnett announced today that the club has added Rob Collins as an Assistant Coach for the 2022-23 season.
“We are pleased to announce the addition of Rob Collins to our coaching staff. Rob brings a wealth of playing experience and most recently has lead a strong program in Elmira with he GOJHL’s Sugar Kings,” said Burnett. “Rob will focus on work primarily with our forward group, team skill development and our power play.”
Collins is joining the Storm from the GOJHL’s Elmira Sugar Kings where he began his coaching career, being named Head Coach of the club in 2021. Prior to his coaching career, Collins played for the Sugar Kings for two seasons before playing four seasons at Ferris State University where he was a Hobey Baker Finalist in 2001-02. After graduating from Ferris State, Collins went on to play 16 seasons of professional hockey which included eight games with the NHL’s New York Islanders, parts of five seasons in the AHL split between the Grand Rapids Griffins and Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and 11 seasons in Germany’s DEL.
”I am excited for the opportunity to learn and coach at a higher level with an experienced coaching staff,” said Collins. “I look forward to getting to know and grow with the players and staff of the Storm organization.”
The Storm return to game action on Friday night at the Sleeman Centre as they host the Saginaw Spirit at 7:30pm.
