ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Department of Athletics announced the resignation of head women’s ice hockey head coach Tim Crowley, which will be effective on August 16, 2022.
A native of Brasher Falls, New York, Crowley has spent the past six years at the helm of the women’s ice hockey program. The longest-tenured coach in program history, he passed Paul Nemetz-Carlson (2003-08) as the winningest coach this past season and leaves with an overall record of 123-21-10.
Crowley guided the Purple & Gold to a 25-4-1 record during the 2021-22 season as the Soaring Eagles finished fourth after advancing to the NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Frozen Four. EC earned five NCAA Tournament bids under his guidance along with four-straight UCHC postseason championships and one NEHC postseason title.
“It’s always hard to have a staff member leave the department,” said Director of Athletics Rhonda Faunce. “In this case, one that is embedded so deeply and has been here for the number of years that Tim has makes it even more difficult. One of the reasons our women’s hockey team has been so good in his time here is Tim’s meticulous preparation. I wish Tim the best on his new journey and have no doubt his skill set will be put to good use. We have already started the search for our new coaching staff and have no doubt a well-qualified list of candidates will emerge in the next couple of weeks.”
Crowley was promoted to the head position before the start of the 2017-18 season after serving as the interim head coach during the 2016-17 season. During his interim season behind the bench, he led the Purple and Gold to an 18-6-4 record, a second-place finish in the ECAC West Tournament, and their fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
In 2017-18, the Soaring Eagles advanced to the NCAA title game and would bring home a runner-up finish after capturing both the UCHC regular-season and tournament titles. Crowley continued EC’s success in 2018-19 as the Soaring Eagles claimed their second consecutive UCHC Championship and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament, finishing the year with a 24-3-1 overall record. Crowley also earned a pair of nominations as a finalist for the NCAA Division III Women’s CCM/AHCA Coach of the Year during his time.
Crowley joined the women’s ice hockey program after four seasons as the assistant coach of the men’s program at EC. In his four seasons with the men, Crowley helped the Soaring Eagles to the program’s 10th ECAC West Title and had one player receive ACHA All-American accolades.
The Elmira College Department of Athletics is currently conducting a national search for its next women’s head coach.
