The Pittsburgh Penguins and Winnipeg Jets made a surprise trade on Thursday when they swapped former 14th overall picks, with the Penguins sending Brayden Yager to the Jets in exchange for Rutger McGroarty.
McGroarty had requested a trade from the Jets after informing the team he did plan on signing an entry level contract with the team.
Due to playing last season in the NCAA, McGroarty does not have a player in NHL 24 and we had to create him ourselves. Yager was 72 overall and given top six potential by EA Sports, so we gave McGroarty the same potential and made him 75 overall due to an extra year of development.

When we proposed the deal as Winnipeg the Penguins were willing to move Yager, but denied the trade anyway.
The same thing happened when we proposed the trade as Pittsburgh, the Jets were willing to give up McGroarty but did not accept the deal.
NHL 24 can not take McGroarty’s trade request into account but thinks that neither team would do this deal, which likely means it is a good deal worth similar value for both teams in real life.
