Leafs Nation is still buzzing about Saturday night’s outing in Buffalo.
That crowd was incredible. The reaction for Auston Matthews’ 60th goal was spine tingling. What a cool moment.
We kicked off the April Fools’ edition of Leafs Morning Take by dissecting the milestone goal, and obviously, the phenomenal crowd reaction, too. Naturally, the conversation evolved into one about Scotiabank Arena. It would be amazing to see that building get back to the Pat Quinn era in terms of noise. Translation: Less sushi and business meetings, more rowdiness and passion, please. Is that too much to ask for?
Presented by DoorDash, the Appetizer focused on everything surrounding the 3-0 shutout victory in Buffalo. As mentioned, Auston Matthews became just the ninth player in NHL history with multiple 60-goal seasons. Meantime, Ilya Samsonov was phenomenal making 34 stops for his third shutout of the year. Also, Toronto’s PK went 6-for-6. Suffice it is to say, there was lots to feel positive about.
After that, brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, we went over some injury updates. Most notably, we broke down Mitch Marner’s passive aggressive comments from Friday when he spoke to the media for the first time since getting injured in Boston a few weeks ago. Time is running out on the regular season, and unfortunately, the Leafs have a lot of question marks in the injury department. Finger crossed.
Lastly, courtesy the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor, we previewed the third of four meetings against the Panthers. Furthermore, the Atlantic Division foes have split their first two meetings. For what it’s worth, Toronto will ice the same roster as they did against the Sabres, which means no Morgan Rielly, among others, once again. We’ll see how it goes.
Anthony Stewart will sub in for Jay Rosehill on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET as we recap Leafs/Panthers plus look ahead to the rest of the week for Sheldon Keefe and company.
