PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Meeting for the first time since the 2016-17 season when both were members of the ECAC West, the No. 14 Elmira College women’s ice hockey program recorded a 3-0 shutout victory against No. 11 SUNY Cortland on Tuesday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Ice Arena.

The victory pushed Elmira’s winning streak against the Red Dragons to 35 games, while the Purple & Gold also improved to 19-0 all-time on home ice against SUNY Cortland.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: No. 14 Elmira 3, No. 11 SUNY Cortland 0
LOCATION: Pine Valley, New York | Murray Athletic Center
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (5-2-0, 3-1-0 NEHC), SUNY Cortland (7-1-1, 4-0-1 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elmira opened the scoring at the 5:42 mark of the first period as Claire Meeder ’23 finished off a give-and-go with Anna Lugge ’27 to make it 1-0. The assist was Lugge’s team-leading sixth of the season, while Lexi Hoffmann ’24 added her second helper of the season.
  • The Soaring Eagles doubled their lead at the 14:19 mark of the second period as Emma Bradbury ’26 netted her first goal of the season after gathering a loose puck in front of the crease. Erika Goleniak ’25 and Alayna Toole ’26 added assists on the goal for the Purple & Gold.
  • Elmira successfully killed off a pair of Cortland power-plays in the second period as the Purple & Gold allowed just one shot on goal through both extra skater opportunities for the Red Dragons.
  • A pair of power-plays for the Soaring Eagles in the third period would generate a total of eight shots on goal despite Elmira not being able to find the back of the net. Cortland would pull the goalkeeper with 1:40 left in the period to gain the extra skater.
  • Emily Lenzen ’24 gathered a loose puck off of the boards in the offensive zone and deposited the puck into the empty net for the Soaring Eagles with 29 seconds left. The goal was Lenzen’s fourth of the season for the Purple & Gold.
  • In goal for the Soaring Eagles, Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 recorded 15 saves to earn the shutout and victory, while Cortland net-minder Molly Goergen made 36 saves on 38 shots in the loss for the Red Dragons.

UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles are set to return to the ice on December 1-2 with a road trip to face NEHC foes Johnson & Wales University and UMass Boston.
