Women’s Ice Hockey Adds Bre Simon to Coaching Staff

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira College Women’s Ice Hockey head coach Jake Bobrowski has announced the hiring of Bre Simon as Assistant Women’s Ice Hockey Coach for the Purple & Gold.

“I am super excited to be joining the coaching staff”, said Simon. “With this being my first collegiate coaching opportunity, I couldn’t be more thrilled to have it be with such a great program like Elmira. I love how the team is super competitive and passionate about the game just as much as I am, so it’s a perfect match for me.

“I’m also excited to be coaching alongside Jake and getting to be on the ice with him again. He taught me so much when he was coaching at Hamline, and now I get to learn more from him as a coach. I think our coaching styles are very similar and both of our goals are to win a national championship.”

Simon comes to Elmira after a distinguished playing career at Division III Hamline University from 2016-20 which included winning the Laura Hurd Award (Division III Player of the Year) in 2019 as the Pipers advanced to the National Championship game.

“We are all excited to have Bre on staff”, mentioned Bobrowski.  “She will not only bring her experience as a player, having played in two Frozen Fours, including a National Championship game, but her coaching experience helping lead Gentry High School in MN to back-to-back MSHL State Tournaments.

“Bre played with skill, fire, and with passion which is how we will play as a team in every practice and every game. I think Bre and Erin (Gehen) round off a fantastic staff that will help lead us as we create our identity this season.”

A three-time CCM/AHCA West First Team All-American, Simon left Hamline as the program’s all-time leader in both goals (92) and assists (93) in 112 games for an average of 1.65 points per contest. Her 31 goals during the 2017-18 season, along with 64 points (2018-19) are both Piper program records.

With four career hat tricks, Simon’s 195 career points are more than double than any other player to wear the Burgundy and Gray.

While playing under Bobrowski, who was an assistant coach during Simon’s four years at Hamline, the Pipers put together a 75-26-11 record, which included a 63-13-10 record over her final three seasons.

Her 31-goal season in 2017-18 saw the Pipers add ten wins to its record from the season prior.
