ELMIRA, N.Y. – Former Elmira College Men’s Ice Hockey forward, and 1995-96 captain Brad Shaver ’96 was recently inducted into the New York State Hockey Hall of Fame on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the Hilton Hotel in Troy, New York.
Shaver, who spent four years with the Soaring Eagles from 1992-96, helped the Soaring Eagles to a 70-38-6 record during his time donning the Purple & Gold. During Elmira’s time in the ECAC West, Shaver was a part of the 1992-93 team that was crowned ECAC West Tournament Champions, as well as advancing as far as the NCAA Tournament semifinals in Maplewood, Minnesota. After defeating Salem State in quarterfinal round, the Soaring Eagles would fall to Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the semifinals, the eventual national champion. In the 1993-94 season, Shaver once again helped the Soaring Eagles to the NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid.
Following his career with Elmira, Shaver would go on to play professionally with CVT Trappers Tilburg out of the Netherlands. During his two seasons, Shaver recorded 91 points in just 41 games played for an average of 2.22 points per game. After his time in the Netherlands, Shaver would go on to play one season for ETC Crimmitschau of the Germany3 League, partaking in 34 games where he scored nine goals while adding 13 assists.
After two seasons in the WPHL and UHL with the Central Texas Stampede and Adirondack IceHawks, respectively, Shaver would begin his coaching career with fellow NEHC school, Skidmore College.
After his time with the Thoroughbreds, Shaver then coached Junior Hockey with the Albany Junior River Rats winning a National Championship in 2006. He then started the CP Dynamo in 2008 and since then has won four State Championships with 18U and been to the National Tournament four times.
With CP Dynamo, Shaver’s squad began at the Tier II level and eventually moved to Tier I with a Top-50 Program in the country. Shaver has worked with and developed thousands of players in the capital region of New York.
